Messalina, wife of Nero, 66-68. Ephesus. (Bronze, 20 mm, 6.41 g, 1 h), struck under the proconsul M. Acilius Aviola (65/66) and the Ephesian magistrate Aichmokles, 66. ΜΕΣΣΑΛΙΝΑΝ... Draped bust of Messalina to right, her hair bound in a long queue tied up behind her head. Rev. ΑΙΧΜΟΚΛΗΣ - ΕΠ Α[ΒΙΟΛΑ] /ΕΦΕ / ΡΩΜΗ Roma, veiled and draped, standing right, holding a figure of Artemis in her right hand and a long scepter with her left. RPC 2632. Rare. With a clear portrait and a fine, dark green patina. As usual, the obverse is struck somewhat off-center, thus, making the empress's full titles uncertain, otherwise, about extremely fine.
